Often when we arrive for a class (or two), our problems/issues don't stay behind with our shoes when we step into the yoga studio. Most of the time,
we get on the mat feeling overwhelmed with worry, fear, stress or troubled by a relationship conflict or in need of an energy boost. But right after class
can leave us feeling clearer, lighter and refreshed. How does yoga have such an impact to us? The ancient yogis, and many teachers today, attributes
this to the unique way that yoga poses and breathwork move blocked prana or chi (life force) through our energy (subtle) body.
According to yoga tradition, the subtle body is a part of you that you can't see or touch—it's where your energy flows, which is why it's also referred to as the energy body. There are 7 key points in the energy body that are thought to be wheels of energy, known as chakras. When energy becomes blocked in a chakra, it triggers physical, mental or emotional imbalances that manifest in symptoms such as anxiety, lethargy or poor digestion. A well-tuned asana practice can free up energy and stimulate an imbalanced chakra, paving the way for that wonderful internal shift for which yoga is known. HEALING WITH ESSENTIAL OILS
Essential oils can help alter our physical, mental and emotional well-being by triggering and strengthening our bodies own natural processes.
Extracted directly from the bark, flower fruit, leaves, nut, resin or root of a plant or tree, and just one drop can provide the amazing health benefits that each oil provides. Used medicinally for thousands of years, the potency behind these oils is their ability to support our natural healing systems. There are three paths that essential oils can enter into the body:
- inhalation through the olfactory system
- absorption through the surface of the skin
- taken internally (use with caution as not all essential oils can be ingested)
During class, we will be using essential oils via our olfactory system and skin application. The entire process from the initial inhalation of the oil to corresponding gland secretion takes place in a matter of seconds. Therefore, a simple inhalation can cause changes in the body from stimulating the immune system, to initiating the digestive system into action and so on. When essential oils are applied to the skin, their healing components are absorbed into the bloodstream by the pores and hair follicles. Once inside the bloodstream, they disperse to the specific organs and systems on which they work.
COMBINING THE HEALING ELEMENTS OF YOGA & ESSENTIAL OILS
Working through our body, mind and soul helps us balance our energy body and this is proven with yoga practice, and enhanced further with using therapeutic grade essential oils. Our chakras are more aligned and balanced after a session of this beautiful combination of alternative healing. The following is an actual chakra alignment and size taken before and after a yoga session combined with essential oils.
Bjorn Nordenstrom, a radiologist from Stockholm, Sweden, developed equipment to measure the bio-frequency of humans and foods.
In his book The Body Electric, tells us that the human body has an electrical frequency, and also that much about a person’s health can be determined by its frequency levels.
In addition to his plant studies, Tainio developed a way to use his machine to measure human electrical vibrational frequency by taking readings on various points of the body and averaging those numbers together. His measurements indicate that the daytime frequency of a healthy human body vibrates in the range of 62 to 68 MHz.
Studies conducted in 1992 by Tainio Technology, as an independent division of Eastern State University in Cheny, Washington, reinforce the findings of these earlier researchers. Tainio and colleagues determined that when a person’s frequency drops below the optimum healthy range, the immune system is compromised. Findings supported by this research indicate that:
